How to Take Manuka Honey - Tips for Daily Use

One of the most common questions we get is: “How exactly should I take Manuka honey?” And look, I get it — when you’re spending good money on a premium product, you want to make sure you’re using it right.

So here’s a no-nonsense guide on how to take Manuka honey to get the most out of every spoonful.

1. Take It Straight Off the Spoon

Simple and effective.

This is my go-to every morning — one teaspoon of our MGO 100+, 200+, or 400+ depending on the day. Take it on an empty stomach, ideally 30 minutes before food or drink (especially coffee), so it’s absorbed properly.

Why? That’s when your body is most ready to absorb its natural antibacterial and anti-inflammatory compounds — particularly MGO (methylglyoxal).

2. Stir It into Warm Water or Herbal Tea

You can also dissolve a spoonful in warm (not boiling) water or tea. This is especially nice for:

  • Sore throats

  • Colds or flu

  • Gut comfort after a meal

Just make sure the water’s not too hot — high heat can damage the enzymes that make Manuka honey special. Aim for under 40°C (104°F).

3. Use It Before or After Meals for Gut Support

Manuka honey has prebiotic properties, which means it helps feed the good bacteria in your gut.

Take a teaspoon before a meal to help line your stomach, or after a heavier meal to support digestion. Many of our customers (and myself included) swear by this when travelling or eating on the go.

4. Apply It Topically for Skin Support

If your goals are more skincare focused, Manuka honey can be used directly on the skin.

Here’s how:

  • Apply a thin layer of MGO 200+ or 400+ to clean skin

  • Leave for 15–20 minutes

  • Rinse with warm water

  • Pat dry

This is brilliant for acne-prone skin, redness, or dry patches. It also works well as a calming mask a few nights a week.

5. Add to Smoothies, Yoghurts or Breakfast Bowls

Want to sneak it into your day without thinking too hard? Stir it into:

  • Greek yoghurt

  • A smoothie (after blending)

  • Overnight oats

  • Your morning granola bowl

It’s a delicious and easy way to boost your nutrient intake without overthinking it.

How Much Should You Take Daily?

There’s no “one size fits all” — but here’s a good general guide:

  • General wellness: 1 tsp per day (MGO 100+ or 200+)

  • Immune support or recovery: 2 tsp per day (MGO 200+ or 400+)

  • Topical use: Small pea-sized amount applied as needed

And remember, consistency is key — just like with any natural remedy.

Final Thoughts from Simon

Manuka honey isn’t just something you take when you’re sick. It’s something to build into your daily health routine — like stretching, breathing, or taking a walk.

Whether you’re starting with a jar of MGO 100+ or going big with the 400+, you’re putting something genuinely powerful into your body — straight from the source.
