Gold Fern’s QR Code Launch: Transparency You Can Taste

We’ve just launched something that’s been in the works for a while — a small update to our jars, but a big step toward more transparency, trust, and traceability.

Every Gold Fern Honey jar now features a QR code on the lid.

When you scan it, you’ll get instant access to the story and science behind your exact jar of Manuka honey.

Let me walk you through why we’ve done this, and what you’ll find when you scan the code.

A Clearer Way to See What’s in Your Jar

When you scan the QR code, you’re taken to our Meet Your Beekeepers page — a live, batch-specific section of our site where you can explore:

  • ✅ A full Certificate of Analysis

  • ✅ Your jar’s tested MGO level and chemical profile

  • ✅ A breakdown of what the lab results actually mean

  • ✅ A peek behind the scenes into where and how your honey was harvested

It’s all there — real numbers, real locations, real people. Because good honey should come with a good story. And proof.

Straight From the Lab – No Fluff

We test every batch of our Manuka honey through Awanui Scientific, a highly respected lab in New Zealand. Their results cover:

  • MGO (methylglyoxal) – the key antibacterial compound

  • DHA, HMF, and NPA – important indicators of freshness, potency, and quality

  • DNA verification – confirming your honey is monofloral Manuka, not a mix

Here’s a real example pulled from one of our recent batches:

MGO: 491 mg/kg
DHA: 774 mg/kg
HMF: 21 mg/kg
NPA: 14.6%
Monofloral Manuka confirmed via DNA

This kind of transparency isn’t standard in the industry — but we think it should be.

Why It Matters

Let’s face it — there’s a lot of noise in the honey world. Words like “raw,” “natural,” and “active” are everywhere. But unless they’re backed by independent testing, they don’t mean much.

We wanted to build something better — a jar that not only tastes good, but proves its value with data.

With the new QR code, you can:

  • Verify your MGO level

  • Learn where your honey came from

  • Understand its health benefits

  • Trust that what’s on the label matches what’s in the jar

Simple as that.

Who’s Behind Your Honey? (Hint: It’s Me and Izzy)

This part means a lot to me — because I’m not just the founder of Gold Fern, I’m directly involved in the harvesting too.

I’ve had the privilege of working with some incredible hives across remote regions of New Zealand. Every season, we jar our harvest in small batches, test it, and now — trace it all the way back to the source for you.

No blending. No shortcuts. Just real, powerful Manuka honey, tested and traceable.

Final Thoughts from Simon

This QR code feature is a step toward something bigger — an industry where transparency and honesty are the standard, not the exception.

Whether you're into the numbers or just want to know your honey came from a good place, we’ve made that info easier than ever to access.

Just flip the lid, scan the code, and you’re connected.
